Reiki & Life

In this article, I'd like to introduce you to Sara Lyon. Sara’s experience with Reiki shows that Reiki practice in any form (receiving healing/self-practice) is a spiritual journey, and how important is to be connected to it. It brings joy in life, and reconnection, supports you in tough times and guides you where to go next.

Often, when you get back to yourself through energy healing and your experience, you get an idea to start helping others. For Sara, it happened as well some time ago when she became a Reiki practitioner and established The Reiki Retreat in Stirling. Still, even then she had no idea that it was just the beginning because last year she enrolled at Healing Hands Edinburgh for a course to become a Reiki teacher.

Now Sara is a certified Reiki teacher and she offers Reiki healing and training in Stirling and central Scotland, and also is a hosted teacher at Healing Hands Edinburgh.

How changing and exciting is that experience? Exciting for sure, because Sara still does not know what is next, what kind of changes the Universe has planned for her in this spiritual journey in the future.

How Reiki Can Change Your Life

I grew up on the West Coast of Scotland where I was always exploring the many aspects of my creativity, learning from the strong female figures around me, knitting, sewing, and making my own clothes. I became fascinated with homoeopathy, tarot, astrology and aromatherapy. Increasingly I became aware and very perceptive of energy and how it affects us in our daily lives. I have always been an empath, feeling a natural affinity with and to help others.

Grief

I lost my mother when I was fifteen which had a profound effect on me, along with other childhood traumas this set me off on a cycle of anxiety, stress and introspection. Luckily my love of learning and creativity pulled me through - going on to study Clothing and Textiles at Heriot-Watt University, which enabled me to pursue my creativity. This is where I met my soulmate - my husband Billy.

Stressful Career

I began my textile career working for Jaeger and designing knitwear for Next, Asda and M&S. I then retrained in accountancy and have spent most of my career in the chemical/oil and gas sector & laterally in consultancy.

It was during this very stressful period of my life that Reiki found me. I didn’t know what to expect and probably didn’t actually believe it would work, but I was desperately looking for something to help me with the overwhelming stress and anxiety that was taking over my life, I have always sought out holistic solutions.

My First Reiki Session

I was amazed at how calm I felt after my first Reiki session whilst also feeling energized at the same time, I was even a little tearful! I knew then that I wanted to learn more about Reiki and I signed up for my first class. I slowly progressed through the levels over the next 10 years with Reiki weaving its influence subtly in the background. For me, it has been a real journey of self-discovery along with a lot of therapy. Incidentally, my therapist is also now a convert to Reiki.

Profound Changes

I now feel like a completely different person and love to share Reiki with others, Working with the Reiki principles is really life-changing and I find most people do not realise that Reiki is actually a complete holistic system that helps to heal the mind, body and spirit. For me, the spiritual element was missing as I have always looked after my mind and body, Reiki has enabled me to find my balance and feel more connected to the universal flow of love and life.

Ongoing Growth

Life is a constant journey of growth and learning and I now feel very privileged to be able to offer Reiki to others and have discovered a real passion for teaching Reiki and empowering others on their own journey.
