Friendship As a Spiritual Practice

"Friendship - It’s a space with no judgments"

In Reiki, we understand that connection is not limited to the physical. Energies meet, resonate, and align in ways our minds can’t always explain—but our hearts can feel. This same principle applies to human relationships, especially friendship.

True friendship is a sacred energy exchange: a space where souls meet, hold space for one another, and often, heal together. In this post, I reflect on the spiritual nature of friendship—the kind that transcends time, distance, and words.

The Meaning Behind the Word

Friendship is not a title; it is a state. It’s not about labels or formalities—it’s about energy, resonance, and intention. In a world full of changing roles—parents, partners, kids, colleagues—it’s easy to forget how essential a true friendship connection is to fulfil our lives.

I was born and raised in the eastern part of Europe, where friendship is deeply rooted in tradition. There, friends are the family we choose for ourselves.

In older times, before therapy had a name, our friends were our emotional healers. We would grieve together, celebrate together, help one another through hardship, and offer a listening ear. A true friend would celebrate your joy as if it were their own.

What Friendship Is—and Isn’t

In today’s fast-moving world, the value of friendship is often misunderstood. It is common to call casual acquaintances "friends," yet something essential gets lost. And often by these "friends" we get hurt, as they become traitors. From there, we get a concept - it doesn't exist.

Especially when it comes to women’s friendships, some carry the pain of betrayal or distance, causing them to lose faith in the concept altogether.

But friendship is your conscious choice and energetic bond. You must choose from your heart. It is also about energetic exchange, when you give and you also receive back.

It becomes an Energetic Bond only when your energies resonate.

Women’s friendship holds a unique frequency. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by strong, loving, and spiritually attuned women throughout my life. These relationships aren’t based on routine or convenience, but on energetic alignment.

People are like planets in a vast energetic system. We orbit, we cross paths, we attract or repel. But those who are truly ours remain in our gravitational field.

I have friends with whom I don’t speak often. I may not know every detail of their lives, but when we reconnect, it’s as if we never paused. The field between us has remained clear and alive.

At the same time, some of them in my life are deeply connected to me; if we don't connect daily (sometimes we do), we feel the energetic connection anyway. Though we live in different places, our energy flows continuously between us. We share the little moments, the deep shifts, the emotional waves. And distance has never been a barrier.

What draws us to each other? We often wonder.

Perhaps we recognise in one another something we don’t yet fully hold. We are different—sometimes opposite—and yet, we create perfect balance.

It’s energetic harmony. It’s soul memory. At times, it feels as if we’ve known each other in past lives—and our souls made a quiet promise to find each other again in this one.

A Reiki Perspective on Friendship

In Reiki, healing isn’t only hands-on—it’s also heart-on. Connection can be healing. Shared joy or thoughts can raise our vibration. A friend's presence, even from afar, can align us when we’re off balance.

Friendship, like Reiki, works through intention, through unseen currents, through love.

True friendship is a spiritual practice. I believe we never meet accidentally; we meet for a good reason, drawn by energy.

With Love and Gratitude

Before I close, I want to honour two extraordinary souls in my life.

Tanja — Our friendship has lasted over 40 years and has deepened into a family sense. You’ve walked beside me, witnessing many events in my life. We have been sharing our thoughts, concerns and wisdom in a very safe space and with time, our bond has only grown stronger. Thank you for being my soulmate.

Elmira — Time may suggest our friendship is “new,” but our souls know better. You entered my life so naturally, it feels like you’ve always been there, and we have had past experiences already with strong connections. Thank you for bringing light, laughter, and depth into my life.

I love you, girls. Forever and always. ❤️
