When a Japanese Girl Discovers Reiki’s Japanese Roots in Scotland

Some time ago, Mari, a lovely Japanese girl, came to the Reiki school for her very first Reiki healing session. Though originally from Japan, she had never heard about Reiki or its Japanese roots before. She felt a deep calling toward spirituality but wasn’t sure where to begin.

That first session was truly inspiring and transformative for her. It sparked something profound, leading Mari to explore Reiki more deeply. She soon enrolled in the Shoden course for beginners, and not long after, advanced to Okuden, the next level in the system.

As part of Okuden, students are asked to complete case studies. Some are excited about this process, while others find it a bit demanding. But I have seen again and again how these practices open new doors. They help students change their intentions, set new goals, and find direction in life.

Many students, like Mari, discover that Reiki opens doors to personal growth, clarity, and transformation. If you are wondering about your life’s purpose, seeking a new direction, or simply curious about what to explore next, Reiki can become a gentle guide on your journey.

Below, I share Mari’s reflections from her personal experience, a summary from her Okuden case studies and a recent update she sent me — a journey of her transformation.

Mari’s Reflections on Reiki Practice

My Reiki practice has really transformed how I experience the world. Over time, I've noticed my intuition getting stronger, and I feel much more spiritually connected. The energy during self-healing sessions has become more intense, and when I work with clients, I sense vibrations and sensations so much more clearly — especially when I scan different areas of their body. Once my intentions are clear, everything flows easily.
One of my most surprising discoveries has been connecting with trees. They're like natural Reiki masters with this incredible, powerful energy that feels just like Reiki. Through them, I've truly understood how we're all energetically connected — oneness is no longer just a concept but a real, felt experience.
I'm going through what feels like a major life transition right now, so I'm working on strengthening my connection with my higher self. I'm excited about advancing to the next level of Reiki training, too.
The emotional healing has been profound. Reiki has helped me process old traumas and let go of misconceptions and regrets. I don’t get upset or angry any more, even in situations that used to trigger me. My husband has noticed the change too — it has opened him up to Reiki and to deeper conversations about inner peace and oneness. He’s now a true believer in Reiki energy.

Case Study Summary

Working with clients across multiple sessions has been an amazing experience. Each person came with unique challenges, different sensitivities, and specific healing needs — which opened my eyes to how many ways Reiki can support healing.
Some clients were highly sensitive and could describe exactly what they felt, while others barely felt anything physically but still experienced real improvements. This taught me that effective healing doesn’t always come with dramatic sensations.
The remote healing sessions were especially eye-opening. Whether my clients were in Japan, the UK, or the USA, they all received and benefited from the treatments just as much as those I worked with in person.
Most fulfilling of all was watching clients reconnect with their own healing abilities and gain clarity about their life direction. These experiences reminded me that Reiki often works on much deeper levels than the initial symptoms we see.

A Recent Update from Mari

My neighbours have been loving their Reiki sessions, and several have asked when I’ll begin offering paid sessions. I’ve decided to start providing Reiki treatments on a donation basis, which feels right for this stage of my journey.
Since I don’t have a dedicated office space yet, I’ll focus on in-person sessions for friends and family, while putting most of my energy into distant Reiki work.
August was a deeply transformative month — it shook things up in my life! Now September feels like a fresh new beginning, and I’m excited about what’s ahead in my Reiki journey. It has truly been life-changing.
